The
Mountain Gorilla:
Gorillas are big, shaggy animals
that live in forests in Africa. An adult gorilla may nearly be
two meters long and weigh about three men. Gorillas are usually
gentle and quite harmless. Some people even make friends with
them. They travel in groups
searching for food. They eat leaves, bark, fruits, flowers and
tender shoots of plants. They don't drink much because they get
water they need from the juicy plants.
Gorillas spend their days playing and eating. While the adults
sleep, the young ones play. They
walk on their hind feet and the knuckles of their hands. They
do not climb trees. There are two types of gorillas - lowland
gorillas and mountain gorillas. Both types are in danger but mountain
gorillas are in greater danger. They are mainly killed for their
fur. They are also having less food to eat because people are
cutting down trees and forests.
The
Aye-Aye: This
strange looking animal is called a Aye- Aye which lives on the island
of Madagascar which lies of the coast of Africa. Most of the time
the Aye - Aye is silent, but sometimes it makes noises which
resemble the sound Aye - Aye. This is how it got it's name.
The Aye - Aye is very small, almost,
the size of the cat. It lives in trees and comes out only
at night in search of food. It has strange looking hands. The middle
finger on each hand is much longer and thinner than the other fingers.
It makes tiny holes in the tree trunks, and then pulls out the caterpillars
and eats them. The Aye
- Aye is one of the most endangered animals of all the animals in
danger. It is in real trouble because -
All the forests where it lives are being cut down. -
People kill them because they believe it brings bad luck.
