European otter :
The
European otter lives all around Europe. It is a carnivore. It has
soft, brown fur on it's body. It is almost 75 cm long. It's tail
is half as long as it's body. It's head is flat and broad. It has
small and round ears. It can close it's ears and nostrils when it
dives in the water. It has short, strong legs with webbed feet.
Loss of habitat is
a threat for the European otter. It is also hunted for it's fur.
Iberian Lynx:
The Iberian Lynx is a small wildcat that lives in the south of Spain. They're usally about two thirds the size of a human. The skin is leopard like and spots cover its body. It
is one of the most critically endangered species of wildcat in the
world. In the past this lynx used to cover a vast area of Spain.
However, recently they have been confined to small areas. It hunts
small animals, like hares and rabbits. But, because of the populations
of rabbits and hares falling in Europe, the Iberian lynx is being
forced to hunt bigger animals such as deer.
The main reasons, for the dramatic drop in population in recent years,
are cited to be habitat loss to clear space for infrastructure and
poaching. It needs great help to avoid extinction.
